Come for a magical exploration of the night sky with your guide for the evening John Stapleton from Torbay Astronomical Society, ably supported by David Shawe, Alison Alexander and Les Green. It’s the date of the New Moon, so the skies will be dark and there will be no Moon to view, but we should be able to find both Saturn and Jupiter, and possibly also Neptune and Uranus. You may see the Andromeda Galaxy and an object called the Double Cluster, depending on the site and the weather. John has a powerful green laser with which to conduct a tour of constellations in the sky.
Bring a telescope if you have one, or binoculars. And please dress warmly! Children are very welcome and there are indoor activities for them to enjoy. This event is free for children and donations of £5 for adults are invited. Everyone can enjoy home-made soup and a roll. (If possible, let Val know if you do want food so we can make sure we have enough!)
If the evening is clouded out, John can still do his presentations indoors, David Shawe offers a display of A3 photos of the Milky Way and there’s tactile picture making for the younger ones (or young at heart) set up by Alison.
And don’t despair if it is cloudy – if the following Saturday is clear, we can do the outdoor stargazing then.
