The church was packed at the end of March with people celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Community Space. In fact, it re-opened in May 2012, but we waited till the Diocese loan was paid off before partying!
After much chat and catching up with old friends over a delicious cream tea, Rev. Nicholas Pearkes introduced a slide show that took a fond look back, starting with the “big idea” to adapt the church for community use that over the years led to over 160 fundraising events and lots of activities for young and old. We’ve had dances, communal meals, live theatre, concerts, poetry, films, comedy, auctions, gardening advice, star gazing, murder mysteries, local history, wildlife adventures, craft fairs, first aid, metal detecting, youth clubs, toddlers clubs, coffee mornings, exercise classes, choirs, competitions, public meetings, Wassail celebrations and fabulous fetes that helped raise vital funds.
It was heart warming to see just how many people had been involved, with support coming from not only Littlehempston but also the surrounding parishes too. Those attending not only enjoyed the scones, but also the exhibition of over 70 posters, many artfully created by Neil Kelly, giving a lovely visual testimony to how well the Space has been used. All present agreed that it had been a most enjoyable ten years and a great success.
