What a lot of great events we’ve had recently down at the Tally! First up was the Tally’s got Talent competition at the end of April when the packed pub was entertained by a wide variety of performances. We had lots of fine music and singing, an impressive display of handbell ringing, dancing ranging from a stripped down Irish style jig to ballet, and even poetry. The talent show was expertly judged by Ali Batten, Roger Goldby and Robin Beaumont, who awarded first prize to the talented quartet Fifty Shades of Bruce, who as a homage to The Boss (and the menopause?) sang I’m on Fire in thrilling harmony. Local woman, Maude, (pictured here second left) seemed both astonished and overjoyed to win! A wonderfully original performance mixing ballet and modern contemporary dance won Eleanor Tredinnick and her friend Rosa the second prize. They’re pictured here with landlord, Mike Joiner, announcing their win and judge, Robin, grabbing a well earned pint.
Helped by the excellent raffle, the evening raised £330 for Macmillan Cancer. As Nick McVernon, who sang and also helped compere, commented, A splendid display of the talent available in Littlehempston. Well done, Kelly and Mike!
A few days later, the Tally was crowded again and this time the entertainment was provided by the Dartington Morris team who danced in the car park then led lusty singing inside the pub. Another great night with lots of people enjoying the excellent new summer menu.
There’s another chance to see Maude and Nick in action on Sunday May 21st at 5pm, when our local choir, Littlehempston Folk, return to entertain with a great medley of songs. Despite moving house recently, our choirmasters have managed to organise the merry weekly rehearsals in the Community Space and the even merrier get together in the Tally afterwards!
