As we approach the Winter Solstice and hopefully a healthy and Happy Christmas and New Year for you all – we are pleased to have plenty to tell you about!
Wassail We’re happy to announce that our Wassail will be happening again on 29th January 2022. Please join in at any point in the proceedings. At 4pm, we all meet in the Church for Cake and Cider and Singing. Expect the unexpected with our mystery Green Man! Then at 5.15pm, there’s the Crowning of our King and Queen, followed at 5.30 pm by the Lighting the Lanterns and Procession. Please bring your own lanterns – and make our Wassail Procession to our very own community Orchard bright and cheerful! At 5.45pm is the Ceremony in our Orchard to bless and protect our apple trees. Then it’s back to the Tally around 6pm for Sausages and Mash and Apple sauce. Please book your meals before 15th January by contacting the pub directly.
Tree Planting We have received a grant from South Hams Council to purchase 20 new apple trees. We will be planting these on 15th January and will need as many volunteers as possible. More to follow.
We recently also received the Gift Aid reimbursement on the donations that were made for the purchase of the land. This money is now safely in the CIC account but we have spent a small portion of it on getting a path dug around the orchard and levelling out a small area. This is all a bit muddy at the moment but will grass over come the spring and make the orchard much more easily accessible.
We sadly have to say goodbye to one of our Trustees, Lucy Morris. Lucy spent precious time helping us become a fully fledged Charity and we will miss her very much. We now have two new Trustees – Ben Parker and Tim Graves, both who live in Littlehempston, and are keen to get stuck in with all the varied tasks of taking care of our community land.

For those new to the village, the Community Orchard and Meadow (aka Lot 7) were bought by local people in March 2018 at an exciting auction at the Seven Stars. Relive the moment Littlehempston purchased its first community land here.
