Here’s a brilliant idea from the Community Orchard trustees:
To all our friends of the Littlehempston Community Orchard and Meadow (COM for short). During these very strange times for us human beings, nature is rejoicing in us taking a back seat.
As you can understand there will obviously be no Community Orchard work days. This means that the brambles and the docks and thistles are having a field day!
We are advised that we can and should take daily exercise.
So this is just an idea for you to mull over… We would like to suggest that you and your family might like to “adopt a patch” in the orchard. This could be any small area of your own choosing, that you could regularly go and give some TLC. The activities could be anything from digging up docks, pulling up thistles, or cutting back brambles from around the trees. Or what about just sitting and observing the wildlife which is in that small area. If you sit long enough you might even see a field mouse, or a brimstone butterfly, or a rare kind of slug or beetle. You could even take a photo of what you see and send it to us so we can share it will everyone else involved in our COM. Or what about a before and after shot to show the difference that you’ve made?
