Littlehempston Youth Club is celebrating a year of twice-monthly Friday evening sessions, in its current incarnation – led by Asher Levin, with the incredible support of Val Hoare. Asher says “Val has been both a rock for the management of the youth club and brings a wonderful, youthful, energising input that contributes immensely. Thank you, Val, and Ali for dealing with finance and admin behind the scenes. Another much appreciated contribution is from Anna, a teenager whose voluntary work is contributing to her Duke of Edinburgh award. She has not only helped with activities and refreshments, but also provided feedback and suggestions and a mature influence.”
Asher is proud that the youth club uses no electrical gadgets for the activities, and all phones are off throughout the evening. The focus is on active games and challenges (the photo captures a moment in a very active game – they’re not asleep!), group co-operation, action songs, acrobatics and circus skills, and all enjoyed an arts and crafts session before Easter – blowing (“blowing up” in some cases) eggs for painting and making pop-up chick beak cards. It was a really enjoyable, satisfyingly messy and creative session!
In the summer term, we will be outside in the community field, weather permitting. And we continue to have use of the community church space when shelter is required. We meet again on Friday 10th May, then fortnightly after that (see Events page for details). The youth club is for 7 to 11 year olds and there are still a few places for new members. Please get in touch for more information.
Many thanks to Asher for this item and also for all his hard work in providing such amazing activities and making the Youth Club such a success.
