Men in lycra are now a regular feature at the monthly coffee mornings, stopping off to refuel on their bike ride. John Syles from the group (pictured here) said: “We love the visit and the cakes are to die for. We are all members of Mid Devon Cycling Club and ride on a Tuesday and Thursday, as well as weekends. There are over 500 members in the club but you may have noticed that when we take our helmets off (plenty of white or no hair) we are mainly retired members.” The church was packed for the Christmas coffee morning with intense rivalry over who won Val Nicholl’s Christmas cake.  The cycling club came without their bikes to just eat cake!

The Space was rocked to the rafters in November by some high energy Ceilidh dancing to the merry music of Stargazey Pie. As well as stylish moves, there was much giggling and occasional confusion, despite the best efforts of caller, Hugh Edwards.  A highlight was the raffle of the quilt made by Anna Ash (pictured right) in Devon colours (remember the boiled cardies?), which raised a splendid £53 for the Space.  Many thanks to all who helped make the night such a success (especially the soup makers).

The Community Space has hosted lots of events recently to keep people cheery, as winter sets in. The annual Craft Fair last month was as ever an enjoyable get together, enhanced by delicious cake and soup from Tracy’s Cafe and, though quieter than usual, raised a splendid £573 to help pay the winter fuel bills. The newly formed Littlehempston Craft Club had a lovely stall and Isabel Rodwell’s beautiful quilt (pictured here in the background) raised a further £67 for Lot 7, the parish’s new community land.
