A trio of experts from Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers, Bearnes, Hampton and Littlewood entranced the audience with bold tales of the provenance of a series of sometimes curious, often beautiful and inevitably puzzling articles from the last five centuries. There was a lot of head scratching amongst those who came along to the Community Space for Antiques Call My Bluff recently – could it be an antique cream dispenser or an early enema appliance? Was that interesting conical piece an exotic hair pin or a Victorian sailor’s fid?
Those who paid as much attention to the tale-tellers, Christopher Hampton, Brian Goodison and Andrew Thomas, (pictured left to right) as to the objects in question had the most correct guesses. The winner was Rev Nicholas Pearkes – a man obviously used to listening and detecting truths! Many thanks to all who helped provide the delicious buffet. This brilliant evening raised a very welcome £200.
