As you probably know, the Littlehempston Fete has said a fond and warm farewell to its long running site at The Mill in Gatcombe. The Fete Committee has been busy seeking a new site for one of the area’s best loved and hugely popular fetes. The committee called an open meeting to help choose and locate a new site. Many Fete fans from across the village came through with great ideas and generous offers of possible locations. Intrepid committee members then spent time investigating possible locations (see photo) and drawing up a shortlist. Most locations were discounted due to difficulties such as available parking, access, and long term certainty, leaving just one very strong contender that met all the Fete’s needs.
The offer of the site that currently ticks all the boxes (and was extremely gratefully received) was that made by Robert Moule. It’s a wonderful field further up the lane from the old Gatcombe village fete site, located just 2 fields up the lane, on the same side of the road, going towards Berry Pomeroy. The field is large enough to offer parking for around 250 cars, has a lovely flat space for the Fete itself nestled in an adjoining field and has beautiful far-reaching views. It has an easily accessible entrance and importantly 2-way traffic can flow up to that entrance.
So we hope you will join the Fete Committee in accepting this very generous offer and raise a glass to the new site for the Littlehempston Fete 2017, to be held on Saturday June 17th 2017. The Littlehempston Fete Committee would like to thank everyone who got involved in helping find a new home for the Fete, with particular thanks going to Robert Moule and the landowner, the Duke of Somerset. We look forward to arranging yet another successful fete for you to really enjoy!
The Littlehempston Fete is a lively, warm community get-together and a day to be enjoyed and remembered! All its proceeds go back into the community. Anyone wishing to get involved in any way with the Fete this coming year, please contact Sue Wellum or Ali Taylor.
