Don’t miss your chance to comment on proposals to reshape NHS community services put forward by the South Devon and Torbay CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group). Consultation will start on 1 September and run until 23 November. The CCG will be seeking feedback on its proposals to re-shape community health services and listening to alternative ideas for strengthening provision. Any proposals must meet increasing health needs, be clinically sound, sustainable and affordable. No decisions will be made on the future shape of services until after consultation has closed and all feedback and alternative proposals been thoroughly evaluated. Feedback is likely to be considered by the CCG’s Governing Body at a public meeting in January/February 2017.
In brief, the proposals aim to switch resources from bed-based hospital care to community-based care by closing Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Dartmouth and Paignton hospitals thus reducing the number of minor injuries units to three (Newton Abbot, Totnes and Dawlish (the latter is in our coastal locality but not part of this consultation). Making these changes would enable investment in community-based services including community nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and social care staff to support people in their own homes.
