Littlehempston villagers responded magnificently to the short-notice appeal for supplies for Ebola victims in Sierra Leone. Collections from Totnes and surrounding areas amounted to 324 boxes (two tons, 9 cubic meters) – these were loaded on board the ‘Gypsum Centennial’ at Falmouth for transportation to Freetown this week. All credit to the Totnes organisers, Jill Lewis and Shirley Prendergast, who had only a week’s notice of the shipping agreement. This photo of their sitting-room in the early days of the appeal gives an idea of their achievement! Thank you everybody.
Thanks to Jenny Galton-Fenzi for organising this appeal locally.
