A big welcome to the McCann family, Phil and Donna and their children Callum, Mitchell and Georgia, who have recently taken over the Pig and Whistle. A sad farewell was said last month to the previous landlords, John and Sue Bates, who are returning to live in Paignton.
Donna and Phil are local people with experience of running pubs and hotels. Some may remember Donna from her days as PA to a senior partner in the firm of solicitors, WBW in Newton Abbot, before Phil lured her into the catering trade. The couple aim to run the pub with a firm focus on food, where possible locally sourced and seasonally influenced, while keeping the pub as a friendly local. Phil is himself a trained chef, but a new chef – described as “young and passionate” – has recently been hired to run the kitchen. Expect a lot of Mediterranean style food and lots of fresh fish (Phil has a mate in the trade). The pub will be open all day from 10am and will offer free WiFi.
The new landlords are a very friendly couple, who are keen to build strong links with the local community. They are offering all those living in the Parish of Littlehempston a 10% discount on food and drink for one month starting from the opening date of Monday 17th September. Watch out for young Georgia, doing her bit in Totnes handing out leaflets – in her pig’s head, of course.
